About Art in Public Places

The Springfield Regional Arts Council’s Art in Public Places program creates unique gallery spaces in public spaces of local and regional businesses. Southwest Missouri is home to many brilliant artists who need a space to exhibit work. Local businesses have many blank walls perfectly suited for displaying art. Bringing the two groups together provides the business with a new way to attract customers and the artist with a place to display work.

Businesses are encouraged to participant either as a Corporate or Non-Corporate member. As a corporate member, the business is only responsible for supervising the exhibition set up and the opening reception. The Arts Council will organize the artists and publize the event.

At the non-corporate level, the business is responsible for organized the artists, supervising the exhibition, and setting up a reception. The Arts Councill will provide the business with all of the information needed to create an exhibition as well as the publicity for the event.

Artists are allowed to sell with a 25% commission going to support the Arts Council's programs. Art patrons contact the Arts Council so that businesses do not need to be involved in the purchasing process. Each exhibit remains with the business for approximately eight weeks.

Almost two years in the to program, 20 different businesses have participated in the program featuring work by more than 100 artists 55 exhibits! Venues come from all types of businesses including banks, credit unions, doctors’ offices, and government offices.
