The Springfield Regional Arts Council (SRAC) will host a public Open House on Saturday, October 15 from 1-4 p.m. at the Creamery Arts Center, 411 N. Sherman Parkway, Springfield. The event marks the substantial completion of Phase I renovation at the building, including Arts Council offices, three Ballet studios and offices of the Springfield Ballet and Springfield Opera, meeting space, exhibition space, a costume shop, a set fabrication shop and more. Renovation costs to date total approximately $1.2 million, funded through private donations and grants from agencies including the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

The October 15 event is geared to families and users of the community Arts Center, with 200 pumpkins ready to be decorated (first come basis), an appearance by "Vincent Van GOAT," the traveling art tour, and various other art activities. Tours will be provided of the renovated facility, giving the community its first look at the work that has been done and plans for future phases. This stage is one of four planned phases, with the later phases including exterior work and a planned addition.

Work done to date includes primarily projects done to bring the entire 35,000 sq. ft. building up to code, including new electric wiring, new restroom facilities and plumbing, new roof, lighting, and accessibility issues. The building includes new ramps and handicapped-accessible facilities, a shared costume shop to serve the local arts agencies, and more.

The Creamery renovation is part of the Community Cultural Plan and the Springfield-Greene County Vision 20/20 long-range plan. The architect for the project is Butler-Rosenbury and Partners, and the contractor is Storee Construction.
