About Creamery Writers' Workshop

The class will now meet on every 2nd, 4th, and 5th Thursday of the month in the Creamery Arts Center on John Q. Hammons Parkway, across from Hammons Field, at 7:00 pm. The class will run from 1 hour to 1 & ½ hours, and will feature a guestspeaker the 2nd and 4th Thursday and friendly-feedback from the group on the writing of the participants will be offered only on months with a 5th Thursday. Please see the SRAC Calendar on this site for more information.

The structure of the class will be modeled on successful writing workshops, and will draw heavily on established as well as avant-garde theories about the art of writing. It will also include discussion topics from John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, Rollo May’s The Courage to Create, and John Gardner’s The Art of Fiction and On Becoming a Novelist, as well as John Daido Loori’s The Zen of Creativity.

This class will not be recreational, except in the sense that it will be rewarding and, hopefully, fun.

The class will be taught in two distinct portions: 1) the lecture portion, which will consist of discussions on writing subjects, and 2) the workshop portion, which will consist of critiques of work submitted by participants.

The Creamery Writers' Workshop, a free literary outreach program of the Arts Council, is open to all writers regardless of age or writing genre, and offers a very supportive atmosphere for both fledgling and published authors every Thursday, 7 to 8:30pm, in The Creamery Arts Center, 411 N. Sherman Parkway across from Hammons Field. Those who attend have an opportunity to submit portions of works-in-progress for “gentle” critiques and comments by group members.

Writers may attend any meeting without advance registration. For information, contact the Springfield Regional Arts Council, 417-862-2787 or visit www.springfieldarts.org <http://www.springfieldarts.org/> .
