C-Street Loft Walk: Steampunk
Steampunk at the Commercial Street Loft Walk on Sunday, September 26, from Noon to 6 p.m. Please join us at the 13th Annual event on Historic Commercial Street between Lyon and Jefferson Avenues. Six lofts will be featured on a self-guided walking tour.
This year the cultural theme is a Steampunk Art & Design Charrette at 307 East C-Street in the parking lot of Christine Schilling's Mosaica Art Studio. A charrette to design a Steampunk-inspired fence will be hosted by the Drury Chapter of AIAS (American Institute of Architecture Students.) Loftwalkers will be able to view large boards created by the AIAS students explaining the Steampunk culture. Christine plans to replace an existing fence with a steampunk- inspired fence using many of the ideas and themes that spring from the charrette.
The Charrette area will be filled with 2-D and 3-D art and installations by artists from LemonDrop, Art Factory 417, Kat Allie's OTC Art class and many other local artists. Many of these artists will be on site during the event, continuing work on their Sculptures. A variety of other pieces that have been prefabricated by artists, will also be on display.
Further inspiration will be provided by models in Steampunk-stylied fashion, body painting, jewelry and hairstyles by Decades Boutique, Alchemy a salon, Art Factory 417, GLO center and others. Living statues titled “doll girls” will pose from 1-5pm on small pedestals in front of open shops. Models and guests sporting steampunk styles will be invited to “step up” for 15-minute poses before moving to a new pedestal. Several window displays will feature Steampunk themes as well. Event day tickets for the loft walk are $12 and can be purchased at the C-Street Market at Jefferson or at the Historic Firehouse at Boonville.
