Saturday, June 21, 2008 - Oklahoma City Museum of Art - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
By request of last year’s travelers, we return to Oklahoma City to view a “once in a lifetime” exhibit: Roman Art of the Louvre. These treasures from the Louvre are being exhibited for the first time outside of Paris. Described as the “best collection of Roman art outside of Italy”, the collection includes sculptures of Jupiter, Athena and other deities, fantastic creatures such as griffins--half bird and half lion--and golden jewelry worn by Rome’s elite including earrings festooned with pearls and emeralds as well as artifacts of daily life. A dutch-treat lunch will be taken in the expansive Museum Café after which a docent led tour of the collection will be enjoyed. A mid-way point on the return for a dutch treat dinner will be observed with arrival back at the Creamery at 9:30 P.M.
The tour will leave the Creamery Arts Center at 7:00 A.M. after a 6:30 A.M. coffee reception. The cost of the tour is $80 which includes round-trip transportation, fees for the museum entrance and docent-led tour, Champagne, nuts and chocolates on the return trip.
