Textile/Fiber Art Exhibit
Cramery Arts Center @ 06:00 PM
Posted by: SRAC
Janice Brueggemann will be the featured artist at the Creamery Arts Center for the month of July. The artist has recently returned to the U.S.A. from a three-year hiatus in London, England where she studied textile arts at City and Guilds. Last July, Bruggemann's work was exhibited in London and pieces from that show were then chosen for a traveling exhibit which visited Birmingham and York. Her work features a lot of texture and bold, saturated colors. This series, called "Riches of Stitches," focuses on plowed fields and lines of the earth.
Rounding out the show will be needlework by Reeds Spring resident Linda Crist who has created both needlepoint and counted cross-stitch artwork from kits over the last 18 years. She feels that computer technology has given this medium a true-to-life simulation of photos, paintings, and stained-glass windows. Crist believes that the needle arts provide the artist an outlet for relaxation, self-expression and unique gift-giving. She will also be exhibiting a feather-enhanced oil painting purchased from a vendor on the Great Wall of China as well as a silk embroidery depicting a scene from the town of Suzhou, China which she acquired during a recent visit to China.
Rebel Quilter, Susan Leslie Lumsden, loves to wallow in color. In fact, while most of her fiber projects start out as white silk or cotton, they end with saturated hues and lots of texture. Her medium is art quilts and a collection of her work will be also be on display at the Creamery Arts Center, 411 N. Sherman Parkway, through July 30th.
The show will be up through July 29th and the public is invited to come by the Creamery Arts Center for the opening Friday night, July 4th, 6:00pm to 9:00pm or any weekday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. The Creamery is located across from Hammons Field in Jordan Valley Park. For further information, call the Springfield Regional Arts Council, 417-862-ARTS(2787).
