About Banks are Beautiful, Credit Unions are Classy
The Springfield Regional Arts Council and local banks and credit unions are partnering to provide art lovers everywhere a unique setting in which to experience local art. The Banks Are Beautiful! and Credit Unions Are Classy! program will give local artists a new alternative for showing and selling art work. Displays will be located in public areas of the financial institutions and will be easily accessible for public viewing.
“There are so many fantastic artists here in Springfield and our 27-county region, that we are always trying to figure out new ways to share this treasure trove of creativity with others and at the same time, give the artists opportunities to sell their works,” explains Sandra CH Smith, executive director of the Arts Council. “ First, the banks and credit unions, next the doctors’ and dentists’ offices. We’re going to make this Arts City U.S.A.!” she promises.
The first exhibition will open September 13 at Guaranty Bank, 1341 W. Battlefield, scheduled to coincide with a Springfield Chamber of Commerce “Business-After-Hours” event at the bank. The Sept. 13 reception is open only to Chamber members; however, the exhibit will be open to the public beginning Sept. 14. This premiere exhibit will run through October 12 and feature the works of Carter Cramer, John Fulton and Julie Mignard. With the enthusiastic response from local banks and credit unions, more opportunities to view local art work will be forthcoming.
Any artist or bank or credit union wishing to participate in this new program is asked to contact the Arts Council, 417-862-ARTS(2787).
