“Once Upon a Terrible Time” is seeking artists of all mediums to create literal and interpretive works inspired by the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. We encourage artists to research their favorite fairytale and their original stories as told by the Brothers first in 1812. Any and all submissions welcome through April 14th, 2017.
We're all aware of the modernized versions of the Brothers Grimm fairytales. The stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid were created by the brothers in 1812, but once upon a time these characters had quite a few experiences that weren't quite so G rated. "Once upon a Terrible Time" seeks to illuminate the darkness and struggles that took place in our favorite Grimm’s fairytales. These tales that were enchanting, menacing, and transformative provided a basis for western culture. They continue to inspire generations of artists. The Drury on C-Street Gallery is looking for literal and interpretive works inspired by Grimm’s fairytales and their romanticized forms. We’ll be accepting submissions through April 14th, 2017. The opening will take place May 5th, 2017.
