C.L.I.C.K - Community Learning in Centers for Kids
Since January 2005 the SRAC has had the opportunity to partner with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board in their after school program, Community Learning in Centers for Kids, or C.L.I.C.K. With the help from local artists and arts organizations special visual and performing arts programming was brought to over 200 students in six area elementary schools. For our last CLICK session, we were even able to bring an authentic Mariachi band from our Sister City, Tlaquepaque, Mexico to Westport Elementary. Both students and faculty had a wonderful time with the band. Thanks to all of the wonderful Parks staff for helping to facilitate such great sessions! We hope to continue this partnership into the 2005-2006 school year.
A very special thanks to the arts organizations and artists that participated in this well received and successful program. If any artists or arts organizations are interested in participating in this program next school year, please contact Addy McCord at 417-862-2787 or by sending a bio/resume, references and a short proposal to addy@springfieldarts.org. Pay is commensurate with program and time used.
This spring the SRAC was able to host two sessions of the Park Board’s Friday Club. To be a part of the Clubs, regular classroom teachers, in participating schools, recommend certain students to this special four week program based on their outstanding grades, improvement and/ or leadership qualities. The SRAC brought four sessions to the students at Weaver and Westport Elementary. Students were introduced to cave art, many new painting techniques, printmaking, color theory, drawing techniques and much more. Students were allowed to explore basic mediums in new ways to create outstanding works of art.
