Springfield Regional Arts Council Announces New Executive Director

The Springfield Regional Arts Council Board of Directors has selected Leah Hamilton Jenkins as new Executive Director.

The board on May 20 voted unanimously to install Jenkins with a start date of Monday, June 1, 2009.

Jenkins most recently was the coordinator of the Arts Programming Sustainability Initiative (APSI), an effort led by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to focus on long-term sustainability for the arts, emphasizing planned giving and endowment building strategies. She was formerly the Education Director at the Arts Council.

Jenkins is a native of Springfield, MO and graduate of Kickapoo High School. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kansas and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Music from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Jenkins is a local recipient of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and was recently named 40 under 40 by the Springfield Business Journal for her work in the Arts. She has performed locally with the Springfield Little Theatre, Springfield Contemporary Theatre, Inc., Springfield Regional Opera and Springfield Symphony Orchestra. She also has taught for the Children’s Choirs of Southwest Missouri.
