MAIN CHARACTER/MALE:
Jon: 32. Struggling writer. Love-hate relationship with ex-wife, who left him because he was a loser without a job and more into his book reality than her. Lies, depressed, spaces out a lot. Not employed, doesn’t really try too hard to get new job. Unhappy in new life, newly divorced, can’t get a break with his art. New young girlfriend who adores him and he wants to be in love with her but isn’t. Spaced out and depressed, scatter brained.
Jonathan: 32. Young, successful writer with good prospects. Healthy relationship with gf, whom he loves. Dedicated to his writing, but it’s not his whole life. He’s very “in the moment” and engaged. Enjoys the people around him. Enjoys life, a young, happy man in the best years of life. Outgoing, cute, well-dressed, neat, friendly.
MAIN CHARACTER/FEMALE:
Debra: 35, successful, lawyer. Somewhat cold, domineering, and aggressive. Once loved Jon and tried to understand his art, but got sick of his laziness, inability to keep job, and how he was spaced out into his book and loved it more than her. They divorced recently and she thinks he is a pathetic loser, but still feels sorry for him. She is cold and angry and wants the money he owes her. Trying to move on with her life.
Elizabeth: 28, young, beautiful, sweet, friendly. Lives with bf Jonathan. Successful career in unknown field. Has a great relationship with Jonathan, enjoys life, smiling and friendly.
SUPPORTING ACTOR/MALE:
Benny: Around 30. (28-34). Loyal best friend, sort of slow, eats a lot, plays video games. Feels sorry for Jon and wants him to get out and about more after his divorce.
Thug: 20s. Baggy pants, boxers showing, listens to loud rock music on ancient cd player with non-trendy, huge earphones. Walks with a swagger. Thinks he’s cool, probably the type to smoke and cuss but nonspeaking role. No manners.
SUPPORTING ACTOR/FEMALE:
Mom: 50-60s. Nosy, talks a lot, rapid gestures with hands, talks constantly. Asks Jon unwanted questions he feels compelled to lie about. Does not notice her family’s silence as she chatters on. Worried about him, caring, but something of a nag. Thinks she supports Jon but doesn’t really. Overbearing mother type.
Publisher: 50s. Experienced, professional, trendy, died blonde hair, overly done makeup, hair, nails, and jewelry. Obviously has money. Assertive and confident. Supports Jonathan’s work and is a trustworthy, efficient publisher.
SUPPORTING ACTOR/MALE:
Dad: 50-60s. Older, heavyset. Silent type, lets his wife chatter away. Seems passive and bored with life.
Leonard: 50-60s. Well-dressed, elderly bachelor who drinks alone. Sits at same seat in favorite bar and orders same drink, sips it slowly. Probably knows the bartender by name. Nonspeaking role.
VOCAL SOLOLIST/MALE:
Any age. Needs to have extraordinary voice, strong belt, med-high range, able to sing pop/rock style. For soundtrack song. Will not appear onscreen.
