CALL FOR ARTISTS: Artists sought to participate in “Art On The Trail” June 7
Tuesday, May 27, 2008
The Springfield Regional Arts Council is sponsoring a plein air outing in celebration of National Trail Day on June 7 and invites all area artists to participate. “Plein Air” refers to the practice of artists taking their painting supplies outside and working on location. To commemorate National Trail Day, the event will be held from 8:00AM to Noon on the South Creek Greenway Trail. The “art loop” where artists will set up begins at Close Memorial Park and continues on a 1-1/4 mile stretch of trail west towards Carver Middle School. Parkiing is available at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park as well as at Carver Middle School. If parking at the school, one can easily walk just a short distance to get to the trail. “We have a lot of artists who are members of the Springfield Plein Air group and they travel to various locations throughout the region each month to paint and draw”, explains Sandra CH Smith, executive director of the Arts Council. “This is a perfect opportunity for residents and visitors to come out and experience the creative process, watching an artist actually creating a work of art.” The Arts Council will award a $100 cash prize for the “Best Painting Done On Site”. There is no fee to participate; however, the Arts Council is asking artists to call its office in advance to register, 417-862-ARTS(2787). In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled.
