Jordan Valley Jazz Band offers chance to jazz it up for young musicians

Thursday, May 29, 2008

The Springfield Regional Arts Council’s Jordan Valley Jazz Band invites area high school and middle school students to practice the art of live jazz every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-8:30 PM starting Tuesday, June 10, with a concert on Thursday, July 3, all at The Creamery Arts Center.

All levels are welcome for instruments including, but not restricted to, the following: trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass, drums and guitar. The Jordan Valley Jazz Band, directed by jazz trombonist, Tom Rastorfer with mentoring from other established local jazz musicians, was created to encourage young musicians and to help improve their musical abilities through the Art of Jazz. It is designed to raise awareness and appreciation of this great American art form amongst younger musicians.

No registration or fee is required, although a $5 Arts Council student membership is suggested.

Stay tuned for great opportunities for both middle and high school students in the Fall when the Jordan Valley Jazz Band teams up once a week with Hoover Music's "Little Hoover's Big Band."

The Jordan Valley Jazz Band is a program of the Springfield Regional Arts Council and is co-sponsored by Hoover Music Company.
