DREAM BIG MOSAIC TO BE UNVEILED

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

The Springfield Regional Arts Council in partnership with Springfield Public Schools, Urban Neighborhoods Alliance, Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Springfield-Greene County Library District, will unveil the 2007 Dream Big Festival mosaic, created by children at the free arts festival last August. The unveiling of this creative work will take place Tuesday, June 24 at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library in the Community Room at 10:30 AM.

The mosaic was designed by 2007 sixth grader, Amber Ruengert, a student of Bingham Elementary and winner of the city-wide Springfield Public Schools Dream Big Logo Design Contest. Children who attended the festival re-created the design logo with assistance from local sculpture/mosaic artist Christine Schilling. The mosaic will reside at the Midtown Carnegie Library Branch through August and will be on permanent display at The Creamery Arts Center.

This year's logo design winner, Kelly Lafon, a 4th grader at Mark Twain Elementary will be present to unveil her design to be incorporated as a public art piece at the 2nd annual Dream Big Festival which will be held at Jordan Valley Park in downtown Springfield, Saturday, August 9 from 10 AM-2PM. It is free to children kindergarten through 5th grade.

The Dream Big Festival promotes healthy living, positive choices and creative alternatives with a variety of hands-on art activities, multi-cultural performances and free ice skating at Mediacom Ice Park. Other partners of the festival include the Urban Districts Alliance, YArts Academy, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, Hand in Hand Ministries and Community Partnership.
