The Missouri Arts Council, in partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts, is joining national efforts to support the military—both active service and veterans—with the arts. We invite you to attendArt Ease: A Regional Convening on Arts and the Military on Thursday, April 26, at the Kansas City Public Library on the Country Club Plaza from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The arts have the power to assist our nation's military service with creative expressions and art therapies. The arts add value beyond the aesthetic, using creativity to enhance outcomes that are therapeutic, educational, economic, and engaging.
Art Ease involves speakers and performers from a six-state region, including Missouri Humanities Council; Dr. George (Brick) Johnstone, neuropsychologist (MO); Healing Box Project (MO); SongwritingWith:Soldiers (TX); The Telling Project (TX); Oklahoma Arts Council; Arthur DeGroat, executive director for the Office of Military & Veterans Affairs at Kansas State University; the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival; and more. The program also features videos about arts and military programs from across the country.
Our keynote speaker is Nolen V. Bivens, Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Ret.). He will address the importance of the arts and military connection, and how it benefits active military, veterans, and their families.
