Each year, the Springfield Regional Arts Council presents the Ozzie Awards to those who have embodied the pioneering creative spirit of the Springfield arts community at the most celebrated arts gala of the year. This year, Alberta Smith is honored for her work as a choir teacher and director at the Springfield Public School District and OTC.
When Alberta Smith was in high school, her choir teacher inspired her to follow a similar career path. “I never had a doubt from that day forward that I was called to teach choir,” Smith says. Alberta worked with the Springfield Public School District for 35 years, serving as Central High School’s choir director for her last 15 years with the district. In 2014 Alberta was hired at OTC to conduct the concert and chamber choirs of the OTC Fine Arts Department, and has helped grow the program and provide community performance opportunities. “Thousands of students, parents, and community members have been touched by Alberta’s gift of music,” says OTC Department Chair of Fine Arts, Kat Allie.
Come celebrate Alberta Smith and all she has contributed to the arts in the area, at this year's Ozzie Awards. This festive gala includes gourmet food from touch, dazzling conversations with the area's best and brightest, and live musical performances. Alberta has chosen one of her former students, Shaun Munday, to perform on her behalf at this year's gala.
