For some prompts to cut up and add to your "inspiration bowl":

  • Draw a bunch of stars
  • Scribble
  • Draw the outline of an object near you
  • Cover half your page with a wash of color
  • Write down a line from a favorite poem or song
  • Add a strip of paper or washi tape to the page
  • cut out the shape of an object, a body, or an animal
  • choose another prompt, and do it with your non-dominant hand
  • pick a color you don't love, and now pick another prompt
  • draw a few spirals
  • glue on a scrap of paper

AND YOUR HOMEWORK:

Create a Mood Board for National Poetry month. Use a journal page or a piece of heavy paper. Add colors, words, images and scraps of paper that inspire you and connect you to a poem of your choosing. Share with us on social media! Add it to the event Facebook discussion, or tag us on social media @SpringfieldArts.

If you'd like an example of a poem, consider "First Fig" by Edna St. Vincent Millay:

My candle burns at both ends;

It will not last the night;

But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -

It gives a lovely light!
