Kat Allie, artist and friend, has been nominated as a top-20 finalist for 417 Magazine’s Most Beautiful.
A portion of proceeds from 417 Magazine’s Indulge event will go to the selected nonprofit of the woman who receives the most online votes and has the biggest crowd at Indulge. As a lifetime artist and passionate supporter of the arts, she has selected the SRAC as her nonprofit of choice. Each of this year’s choices for Most Beautiful is worthy, a remarkable group of giving women in our community.
If you are looking for a person who is beautiful inside and out, who genuinely cares about the success of people, who is creative beyond measure, look no further than Kat Allie.
I’ve known artist Kat Allie since my husband and I first moved to Springfield in 2007. At the time, she was an artist member of the SRAC and I was just getting started in my career after graduation. My friend and former SRAC staff member, Amanda and I decided to try out the class Kat was teaching on at The Creamery. Encaustic was a medium I had never tried, but I loved Kat’s work, so with a bit of nerves I signed up. Immediately after the class started, Kat put everyone at ease and set to work teaching us all about the techniques of encaustic painting, or painting with hot wax. She has a unique ability to make you feel like you are the only person in the room and the work you create is better than Picasso. Several years later, she saw the pieces I made at her workshop hanging in my husband’s office and remembered teaching me.
As I got to know her more over the years, I learned that the genuine spirit she displays in the classroom is just how she operates. She authentically cares and encourages people to accomplish their dreams, no matter how wild. In her role as Chair of the Fine Arts and Humanities department at OTC, she champions the arts with each individual student she teaches all the way up to the college’s administration. Her passion is infectious, making those around her excited to be involved.
Help the SRAC raise some funds for arts education by voting for Kat Allie as the Most Beautiful by visiting 417mag.com/10MB and voting through June 7.
