Every portrait is approached with the utmost respect and reverence not only for the people involved, but also for the artwork that is meant to endure to future generations. Every portrait I produce is pursued with the goal of the resultant work being the very best I can produce.
“There is something so captivating about drawing life! No matter how long I’ve been drawing, I’m still amazed to watch a flat piece of paper or canvas come alive!! It’s as if life has been breathed into the work and I can feel the subject’s presence. Even in my recent paintings of colorful bottles, the exhilaration is there when the bottle begins to emerge three dimensionally. I can feel the smooth, cool texture of the glass and the warmth of the light passing through into shadows. The journey to the end result gives me such a rush that I hurry back to do it all over again!”
Susan's thoughts: "Art has been a large part of my life since childhood. I strive to tell stories with my paintings that might touch your heart or make you ponder. Moments in time that might not be here tomorrow."
This quote says it for me so well: "What is art but a mold in which to imprison for a moment the shining, elusive element which is life itself—life hurrying past us and running away, too strong to stop, too sweet to lose." Willa Cather (1876-1947)
I believe that God gives each of us great gifts to enjoy on our life journey. Our challenge is to identify these gifts, use them in positive ways, and share them with others. My artwork is a celebration of one of these God given gifts. It is my hope that sharing this gift brings some level of joy to my fellow travelers.
