I paint to live and to breathe. Before painting, I saw black and white, now I see color. It is literally life and breath to me today. I am accepting the gifts of God now. Every time my paints touch canvas, I truly believe I am an artist and I receive the blessing of creativity unconditionally. Each painting comes with a word to my heart that I translate to what my eyes can see and understand. I am simply blown away by the gifts given and gifts taken away, one painting at a time.
My work stems from nature and is filtered through my experiences. It has representational tendencies yet is not packed with narratives. Sometimes there is an agenda, sometimes not. That is what keeps it fresh and seductive. Primarily a painter, my passion for the two dimensional surface is often energized by explorations in woodcuts, linoleum cuts and monoprints. Landscapes and animals (birds in particular) are constant shape shifters offering endless unions of design elements - they abstract themselves! The rural setting in which I live offers me endless visual intimacies with nature.

The themes I explore are rooted in everyday items and spaces we interact with. Objects that inhabit our living spaces or the cityscapes / landscapes we traverse through daily without much consideration. These spaces and objects are expressed using the natural opposition related to near/far, light/dark spaces and the shapes they inherently describe.
