Springfield Ballet announces new Artistic Director

A message from The Springfield Ballet's president, Will Carter:

As Springfield Ballet continues its work in providing premiere ballet education and outreach to the region, it is the job of our Board of Directors to ensure that our organization will be able to continue delivering the exceptional level of instruction and performances to which you have become accustomed.

It has been announced that Ashley Paige Romines, Artistic & School Director, will be leaving the organization in May after 12 years. Because of this, it is my privilege to announce that our search committee has concluded its search for Springfield Ballet’s new Artistic Director. Beginning June 3, 2019, Andrew Parker will assume the position as he joins the staff of Springfield Ballet. Andrew is currently the Artistic Director at Chattanooga Ballet in Tennessee.

Andrew was selected out of a pool of very talented candidates from across the country. Throughout the interview process, he proved time and time again that he was the right candidate for the position. He brings many years of experience to Springfield Ballet, which you can view below in his biography. Additionally, Andrew is a natural leader in his ability to deliver proper technique, while understanding the unique needs and levels of each of our dancers. As we watched him guest teach various age ranges, we quickly realized his versatility in working with different levels of dancers. This was very important to us because we wanted to make sure that our next artistic director is a mentor and someone that our dancers of all ages could look up to. His overall positive attitude was infectious and helped us know that he was the right person to continue the legacy that Ashley Paige Romines has built over her last 12 years at Springfield Ballet.

I would like to thank you for your patience in allowing us the time to do a thorough search. It was very important that we found the right person to lead this organization into the future, and we feel strongly that Andrew will be able to do so.

I would also like to take a moment to thank the members of our search committee that spent many hours interviewing candidates and helping us make the right decision. That committee included board members Mary Ling (Vice President), Candida Deckard (HR Chair) and myself. Additionally, Ashley Walden our Executive Director and Laurie Nicholson from the Guild represented staff and parents. And of course, Ashley Paige Romines provided tremendous assistance in the process in making sure that our candidates had the right technical skills and know-how to carry the organization forward.

I also want I want to let you know that we will be hiring for a second position of School Director later this fall once Andrew has time to get settled in and get through summer classes and intensives. That position remains open on our website and we will continue to accept applications.

Thank you so much for your time, and please let me know if you have any questions.
