MidxMidWst Muralists

call for artists and muralists
CALLING ALL MURALISTS & STREET ARTISTS! MIDxMIDWST is here and we're hosting our inaugural event on September 12-13: SGF's first high-octane mural festival MIDxMIDWST Mural Fest. We're looking for 8 artists to paint LIVE during the festival on select walls downtown while we groove to live music and peruse the best contemporary, tech, and maker arts the region has to offer. Artists will not only be paid for their work, but MIDxMIDWST is working with local venues, restaurants, and businesses to make sure our artists have an expenses-paid taste of SOMO while they help to beautify it. Apply now >>
MIDxMIDWST Arts & Culture Initiative in a non profit organization and we are bringing the areas first high-octane mural festival here to Springfield this September 12-13: MIDxMIDWST Mural Fest. During the festival 8 artists (both local and national talent combined) will be painting live on 2 large downtown buildings. Each selected artist will be paid to create an original (approx) 20ftx40ft mural in response to the prompt words: Identity, Community, Optimism.  Artists will be arranged into groups of 4 and split between the two wall spaces at opposite ends of Robberson Alley/the square.

We are planning to have "stations" set at both wall locations with live music and activities to accompany the live artists. We will also be lining vendors along Robberson alley to connect the two wall locations to create a walkable event (similar to the length of Artsfest).
The event also plans to host live music, food and drink vendors, arts, tech, and community-focused vendors and activities as well. As I'm sure you can conclude by our namesake, our goal is to grow to be the Midwest's answer to South by Southwest, but with emphasis on public art and contemporary tech arts and music entertainment. The footprint of the festival is all downtown, radiating from Robberson Alley, and will go on from 10am-6pm both days with an "after party"  at one of the fenced-in wall locations with live music and entertainment from 6-9pm on Saturday. We are wanting to lean in to the timing of Oktoberfest celebrations and, as Katie mentioned, create a small beer garden available on the private property areas of the festival.
We are excited to lean in to the momentum of city wide efforts in placemaking and economic vitality in conjunction with the arts and culture sector. As an NFP, this event and organization are entirely funded by sponsors and community donors and we are ready to connect with sponsors interested in helping shape the program and sponsor benefits!

MIDxMIDWST as a whole is a women-led organization focused on diversity and inclusion in our area through talent retention, acquisition, and economic vitality through the arts. In addition to the annual festival, our organization aims to work with community groups and city officials to provide more public art installations throughout the city over time. Our key goal is to eventually open a robust public arts focused residency program here in the city by 2025.
