Join us in celebrating our local schools' winners in the Springfield Council of PTA's Reflections competition. Reflections is a National PTA (Parent Teacher Association) program that encourages students to explore the world around them by creating art in response to a theme. The Reflections theme for 2023-24 is "I am Hopeful Because..." with entries in the categories of literature, music composition, dance choreography, film, photography, and visual arts. The awards ceremony begins at 7:00 PM, but guests are welcome to browse the gallery starting at 6:30 PM.

Whereas in English, there is only one word for "love", in Greek, there are many. In this concert, we'll focus on three tiers of love: érōs, philía, agápē.

Featuring works by Finzi, Diemer, Narverud, Hagenberg, and others.

There will be a reception following the concert with light refreshments and hors d’ouerves.

Join the Queen City Chorale for our inaugural concert under our new name! We are excited to announce a new collaboration between the Springfield Symphony and the St. Louis Ballet under the artistic direction of Gen Horiuchi for a performance of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Swan Lake. We welcome this celebrated ballet company to Hammons Hall for Horiuchi’s staging of this audience-favorite love story about Prince Siegfried and the beautiful Swan Queen.

The marriage of composer Robert Schumann and pianist Clara Schumann was filled with musical innovation and intellectual engagement, but it was also marked by tragedy. The arrival of young rising star Johannes Brahms brought joy to their household, and the deep bond that developed between Clara and Johannes has long been the subject of question and conjecture. The Springfield Symphony will present a unique evening of symphonic, chamber, and solo works by both Schumanns and Brahms, while actors illuminate the human story behind these towering figures of western music.

As far as lovers go, Romeo and Juliet need no introduction. Their ill-fated love story endures through the centuries, and Prokofiev’s score for the ballet is stormy, passionate, and full of the fervent feelings of young love. We are pleased to present Chinese composer Deqing Wen’s symphonic poem Nostalgia and our 2022 Hellam Competition Winner, Ilkhom Mukhiddinov, on Paganini’s virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 1.

The Springfield Symphony is delighted to offer the world premiere of Daijana Wallace’s beautiful Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, featuring our own Principal Cellist Daniel Ketter. And we’ll play Sibelius’s Second Symphony, which Sibelius described as “a confession of the soul.” The symphony is grandiose, profound, and ecstatic, and its love themes range from love of country to a meditation on Don Juan, the notorious Italian lover.

Whether it’s being with your loved ones at home for the holidays, or taking your special someone for a walk in a winter wonderland, the Christmas season is brimming with love. We’ll be playing everyone’s favorite holiday tunes that capture the spirit of love and romance of Christmastime.
