Hungarian-born immigrant; associate professor of English at Missouri State University; lives in Springfield with husband and two sons; grateful for finding a beautiful life in the Ozarks
Andrea Hellman, Ed.D., is an associate professor of English at Missouri State University. She studied studio art at the School of the Worcester Art Museum with masters of painting and printmaking like Tom Lewis, Sally Bishop, and Ella Delyanis. She holds a doctorate in Language, Literacy, and Cultural Studies from Boston University. She is best known for her publications in TESOL and directs a National Professional Development grant project called Show Me Multiliteracy (multiliteracy.net).
Andrea is a prolific fine artist, who maintains an online gallery of her works (https://www.andreahellman.com/). Her preferred medium is digital painting although she has worked in oil painting, watercolor, etching, collage, mixed media, and photography. Accolades for Andrea's art in 2023 include two Gold Awards and two Bronze Awards from the J. Mane Gallery, a Best of Show Award and a Crystal Award from the Gallery Ring, a Second Place Award and an Honorable Mention from the Ten Moir Gallery, one Artist of the Month and four Bronze Awards from the Camelback Gallery, a Talent Prize Award and an Honorable Mention from Teravarna, two Artistic Excellence Awards and two Honorable Mentions from Fusion Art, a Special Merit Award and a Special Recognition artist from the Light Space Time Gallery, an Honorable Mention from the Art Show International Gallery and the Art Room Contemporary Online Gallery.
