The Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) presents a program of monthly exhibitions in the SMAC Art Center Gallery located at 7 Downing Street in the historic district of Hollister, MO. The program seeks to present a diverse range of creative approaches, mediums, and backgrounds of artists.
Exhibitions at SMAC Arts Center originate with the Gallery Committee or from proposals submitted by curators or artists.
To submit a proposal, the curator or artist(s) should carefully review our gallery specifications. A tour of the gallery is encouraged in order to tailor the proposal to our unique space. Gallery dimensions are available on our website: smac-art.org
All proposals should aim to present exhibitions that are aesthetically strong as well as provide the community with an opportunity to explore topics of cultural, artistic, and social relevance.
Proposal submissions are accepted year round, however proposals for the upcoming year must be submitted no later than August 31.
The seven member Gallery Committee meets in September to review all proposals and make decisions regarding exhibitions based on a five question scoring system. Each proposal will be rated on a scale of 1-6 in the content areas of:
● technical skill
● originality/creativity
● concept
● composition
● marketability
Ratings will be tallied and highest scoring proposals will be offered open slots on our 2026 gallery schedule.
Acceptable file formats for proposals are: doc, docx, pdf, txt, rtf. Maximum file size is 1MB.
All proposals must adhere to the following guidelines:
Resume
Resume should be typed with 8.5″x11″ format in 10-point or larger font. Group proposals should include all participants’ resumes.
Exhibit Proposal Details
Include your name and identify yourself as either the featured artist or the curator.
Specify a solo or group exhibition. Group exhibitions must include names of all participating artists.
Describe the concept or theme of the exhibition and include a suggested title.
For artists only: describe your current work as well as your proposed work, noting any significant new direction your work may take.
Identify any special equipment or other requirements you may need to present the proposed exhibition.
Include details of supplementary public programs or presentations you may be planning. SMAC encourages participants to consider additional artist talks, panel discussions, or workshops geared toward engaging the community.
Indicate if the accompanying images will be included in the proposed exhibition or are for representation purposes only.
