🔹 Set-Ready Skills – Understand the tools, workflows, and daily expectations of a Production Assistant. Learn what it takes to hit the ground running on any set.
🔹 Resume Building & Networking – Build a standout entertainment resume and gain real-world strategies for freelance job hunting and growing your professional network.
🔹 Departmental Overview – Explore the various departments on a film set (camera, sound, lighting, costumes, etc.) and discover where your interests and strengths align.
🔹 Industry Language & Set Etiquette – Practice reading call sheets, locking up sets, and interacting with cast and crew. Build the confidence to speak the language of the industry.
🤝 Industry Networking Mixer – Cap off the day with an exclusive mixer where you’ll meet fellow participants and key industry professionals.
🎓 BONUS:Completion of this course qualifies you to register as a “Registered Apprentice” with the Missouri Film Office. Productions that hire registered apprentices are eligible for a 5% bonus on their Missouri tax incentive, making you a more attractive hire for future projects.
About the Instructor – Kaycie Surrell
Kaycie Surrell (she/her/they) is a writer, performer, producer, and multidisciplinary artist. She earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and enjoyed work as the Curator and Community Engagement Coordinator for Chicago’s Millennium Park Foundation & Boeing Galleries before relocating to New Orleans to focus on film work. As a graphic artist for film & television she’s worked on award winning projects—most notably Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ and Rolin Jones’ adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire in addition to projects for Netflix, BET+, AMC, and more. She has performed burlesque/draglesque as Miss Fancy since 2009 and currently produces a regular burlesque & variety show in Springfield, MO called Miss Fancy’s House of Follies.
