Splatter Art Studio
Springfield, Missouri
This 2-day pastels workshop is for artists of all levels.
If you are new to the pastel medium you will benefit from Lorraine’s own experience as an artist and her “Unique Technique” guidelines. If you are a more experienced pastel artist you will be pleasantly surprised by a fresh look at some of the basic concepts, as well as tips and tricks that will help you develop your style, move your work to award-winning level, and increase sales.
Lorraine will cover in some depth the nature of the pastel medium and the many kinds of pastels and paper/surfaces available and how to use them to facilitate your success. She will explain what gives a painting “good bones” and the importance of planning and design. Her “Unique Technique” for pastel painting, will be introduced and demonstrated. You will experience the “feel” of different kinds of pastels and surfaces and you will use thumbnail value sketches to find a good composition, then translate your thumbnail to an underpainting. These planning steps are essential to avoid time-consuming mistakes during the painting process.
She will explain techniques to achieve atmospheric perspective and depth in a painting. You will learn about the often-overlooked role of simultaneous contrast in value and color to achieve that depth.
Lorraine has distilled 24 years of workshop, studio and plein air experience down to a basic step by step process which will help you succeed in creating successful works of art, and will facilitate learning and style development.
Throughout the two days she will strive to give everyone as much individual attention as possible.
