Hollister, MO—The Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) will host a solo exhibit featuring the work of artist Joeaux Robey, entitled Awakening the Buddha Within. The show will run April 3-25 at the SMAC Art Center, 7 Downing Street, in historic Hollister, MO.
Joeaux Robey is a fine artist, art director, and speaker whose art reflects her desire to fully understand the expansion of spiritual awakenings. Using the artistic technique of pointillism, Robey creates a visual connection to sacred concepts, suggesting that art practice can become a meditative experience. “Meditation, the practice of going within, can be accomplished in so many ways! I chose to explore the avenue of art,” says Robey. “Many of these drawings were created as I waited in busy, noisy airports while traveling for my work. To meditate, a person just needs to find their ‘zone’ and be fully present.”
Over the course of a few years, Robey filled her sketchbooks with intimate pen and ink drawings. The result is a body of work to be viewed as a pathway to a greater understanding of freedom, gratitude, and selflessness. Although Robey never intended these personal reflections to be on view, she happily shares her work in this exhibit.
The opening reception will be on Friday evening, April 3, from 6-9 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. During the reception, Robey will speak about her art and answer questions. Attendees may view the exhibit, tour the private studios, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Vintage Paris Coffee kiosk will also be on site.
Each month during their exhibits, SMAC highlights one of the many local non-profit organizations that serves the area. This month SMAC is drawing attention to Elevate Branson, which addresses the root causes of generational poverty to create lasting change. They provide resources, relationships, and a network of support that offers hope, dignity, and purposeful work to neighbors in need. Learn more at elevatebranson.org
