BIENNIAL FEES AND AWARDS

ENTRY FEE
$35 for students (submit up to 3 artworks)
$45 for all other photographers to submit 1 artwork
$60 for all other photographers to submit up to 3 artworks
Entry fees are nonrefundable whether your work is accepted into the exhibition or not.
If selected, only one artwork from each photographer will be on display in the exhibition, regardless of the number submitted.

AWARDS
A total of $17,000 in cash prizes are available, plus recognition of awards on gallery website, social media, and other media.
Best in Show - $10,000
Category Prizes - $1,000 each for best work in each of six categories.
Student Prize - $1,000 for best student work
All included photographers will be featured in and receive a hardcover, bound copy of the 2022 Regional Biennial Exhibition Book.

ABOUT US
Gallery 1516 is a non-profit art gallery in Omaha, Nebraska. Our mission is to support and celebrate Nebraska and regional artists from the visual arts, music, literature, and architecture. We provide a venue in eastern Nebraska for art exhibitions, educational lectures, music performances, literary readings, and more. Gallery 1516 supports the arts through a broad range of events, community engagement, and fundraising activities, without charging artists commission fees. We also collaborate with museums, educational, professional, and arts organizations to showcase traveling exhibitions and unique events. Gallery 1516 is dedicated to Nebraska and regional artists to affirm the value that their art holds in the cultural life of the community.
ABOUT THE BIENNIAL
Gallery 1516’s Regional Biennial is a juried exhibition of artwork held every two years. The focus of this year's exhibition is photography. The goal of the Regional Biennial is to showcase the best artwork being created in Nebraska and the states it touches, including Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Approximately 100 artworks will be selected for this exhibition, all of which will be for sale.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all photographers currently living or working in the following states: Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Photographers are also eligible if they were born or raised in the above states, even if they no longer live there. Photographers with varying levels of experience are welcome to apply, including professionals, amateurs, and students. All artwork submitted is expected to be gallery-quality regardless of your experience level.

MEDIUM
This is a photography exhibition. Works in any other medium will not be accepted. Acceptable entries include film, digital, and smartphone photography, including altered and manipulated images. Images must be printed. Digital projections, NFTs, or other formats will not be accepted. Artwork may be printed in a variety of formats, including but not limited to, digital prints, silver gelatin prints, cyanotypes, daguerreotypes, etc. and printed on paper, metal, board, or canvas.

WORK REQUIREMENTS
Work must be original in concept and execution. Work must not violate any copyrights. Photographers are encouraged NOT to submit work such as advertisements, wedding photography, or family and graduation portraits.
No diptychs, triptychs, or multiple panel works will be accepted. Work with multiple images framed as ONE unit is acceptable. Artwork that does not comply with these requirements will not be accepted. The entry fee is nonrefundable, including if you submit work that does not meet requirements.

SIZE & QUANTITY
Maximum size (excluding frame) is 72 inches on the long edge. Artwork can have various proportions (24 x 36, 30 x 30, 16 x 12, etc.), with the maximum length on the longest side being 72 inches. Maximum of one photograph per photographer may be accepted into the show.

CATEGORIES
When applying, select the category that you feel best describes each piece submitted. A $1,000 cash prize will be paid out to the winners in each of the following categories: - City/Street
- Conceptual
- Landscape/Nature - People
- Photo Journalism - Still Life

FRAMING
Work must be securely framed in a gallery-quality frame or mounted with appropriate hardware. A gallery-quality frame should be sturdy, attached securely, and be devoid of scratches, chips, and blemishes. Work must be ready for hanging with a wire and D-hooks ONLY. No sawtooth hangers, magnets, tacks, or other unusual hardware. Artwork that arrives poorly framed or unsuitably mounted will be disqualified and returned to the photographer at the photographer’s expense. Gallery 1516 is not responsible for damage caused by works framed with glass. Plexiglass is recommended.

SALES
Gallery 1516 has a strong following of collectors and has established a reputation for selling artwork. All artwork submitted to the 2022 Regional Biennial is required to be for sale. Pricing is at the discretion of the photographer and should reflect your standard pricing. No price changes will be accepted once you have submitted your entry – please double check your entries for accurate information. Gallery 1516 is a non-profit organization and does not take commission fees from the sale of artwork or process payments. The gallery will put you in touch with the buyer directly to handle payment. Be prepared to contact the buyer with your preferred method of payment (ex. check, invoice, PayPal, Venmo, etc.) Reporting sales to your gallery representative, if applicable, is the responsibility of the photographer.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Artwork, if accepted for the exhibition, must be shipped or hand delivered to Gallery 1516 between October 10-21.

Shipping costs are the responsibility of the photographer. Artwork should be shipped using a MasterPak, Airfloat, Uline art box or equivalent box. These boxes will ensure the safety of your work and make the handling process significantly easier for the gallery. Photographers NOT using a recommended box are required to pay a $35 handling fee.

LIABILITY & AGREEMENT
All entries will be made at the risk of the entrant. Care and caution will be exercised in the handling of all artwork, however Gallery 1516 may not be held responsible for loss or damage, no matter what the cause. Photographers are responsible for insuring their work at all times - during transit and while they are on Gallery 1516 premises. Digital images are assumed to be accurate representations of the entrant’s original artworks. Artwork that differs markedly from the submitted image will be disqualified. The photographer retains copyright to their image(s), however, by submitting to this show, photographer agrees to Gallery 1516’s use of the images for publicity and archival purposes. Photographers agree to abide by all rules in this prospectus. Submission of entries and entry fee, which is non-refundable, constitute agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus.
